New Certification Exams for 2021: UPPCC Commissions New Job Analysis Study

Lexington, KY - March 5, 2020 - UPPCC announced today it will introduce new and updated examinations for both the Certified Public Procurement Officer (CPPO)® and Certified Professional Public Buyer (CPPB)® credentials in 2021. These improved credentials are a direct result of a new international public procurement Job Analysis project that officially kicked off in November 2019.

The UPPCC commissions a Job Analysis to be performed every 5-7 years and uses the results to update its CPPO and CPPB certification examinations. Best practice standards for certification require that the industry role(s) be evaluated on an established timeline to not only identify essential Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs), but to also evaluate the frequency and importance of the KSAs to the role(s). This rigorous and systematic process provides assurance that what is important for competent practice in the profession is tested in the certification examinations and that the examinations themselves are fair and valid. The current UPPCC Body of Knowledge (BOK) for CPPO/CPPB reflects content for the examinations per the previous study conducted in 2013.

A group of UPPCC certified individuals from across the United States and Canada met January 13 - 15 as the Job Analysis Task Force. Representing a wide range of experiences, education levels and work settings, the Job Analysis Task Force was guided by UPPCC’s testing agency Prometric, through 3 intense days of meetings to arrive at a comprehensive list of competency statements for each UPPCC certification level.

The work of the Job Analysis Task Force will be vetted by the larger profession via online survey in March 2020. The results of the survey will be used to develop new content outlines for the CPPO and CPPB examinations that are anticipated this summer. UPPCC will then transition to the new examinations based on these new content outlines beginning in 2021.

It is important to our profession that the UPPCC receives a good rate of response to the survey for validation purposes. Please look for an email regarding the UPPCC Job Analysis survey in mid-March and plan to make your voice heard by participating in this important project.

The UPPCC is grateful for the commitment to the profession by the Job Analysis Task Force and for the generosity and support of its many partners working to make this project a success.
