Exam Preparation
Certified Professional Public Buyer (CPPB) Examination
Candidates preparing for the CPPB examination should review the
CPPB Body of Knowledge. The BOK represents the knowledge and skills
that an individual possesses or should possess in order to competently perform
the duties of a professional public buyer.
The CPPB examination covers the topic areas addressed in the CPPB BOK. The
candidate should review the BOK while performing a self-assessment of their
individual strengths and weaknesses of the subject matter to be tested.
Candidates should study all topic areas, concentrating on those areas
identified by the candidate as areas of weakness and those areas that are
heavily weighted on the exam.
For re-enforcement of the public purchasing BOK, the Universal Public
Purchasing Certification Council (UPPCC) recommends the following textbooks for

Certified Public Purchasing Officer (CPPO) Examination
Candidates preparing for the CPPO examinations should review the
CPPO Body of Knowledge. The BOK represents the knowledge and skills
that an individual possesses or should possess in order to competently perform
the duties of a public purchasing manager or supervisor.
Written Examination
The CPPO written examination covers the topic areas addressed in the CPPO BOK.
The candidate should review the BOK while performing a self-assessment of their
individual strengths and weaknesses of the subject matter to be tested.
Candidates should study all topic areas, concentrating on those areas
identified by the candidate as areas of weakness and those areas that are
heavily weighted on the exam.

Oral Examination
The oral examinations are administered by a three member panel of active CPPOs.
Thirty-Three (33) questions will be asked of the candidate.
The panel will assess the candidate's understanding and application of
professional purchasing and materials management; the candidate's experience in
governmental or other public organizational structures; the candidate's ability
to communicate with peers, subordinates, and superiors, and the candidate's
ability to recognize and respond to both typical and atypical problems and
situations.
