Lapsed Status
Lifetime Status

Lapsed Status describes a once certified individual who has passed their recertification due date, but by no more than 5 years. Individuals with certifications in lapsed status are not entitled to continue using the certification that has lapsed and they are not considered certified by the UPPCC until the certification is successfully re-instated. Individuals who are more than 5 years passed their expiration date are considered expired and must re-apply, re-qualify as well as re-test in order to become certified. The process for certification for an expired individual is no different than an individual newly applying for certification.

Only individuals who maintain certification through recertification are entitled to use the CPPO and/or CPPB certifications. Continued use of certification marks after it has expired is a misrepresentation, and may carry legal implications of such action.

With penalty, lapsed individuals have the opportunity to re-instate their certification(s). These penalties vary in degree depending on the time the certification has been in lapsed status. Penalties range from increased fees, increased requirements and in severe cases re-testing. The information below describes the varying degrees of lapsed status and re-instatement requirements for each degree:

Within one (1) year of the expiration date of the certification:
• CPPB candidates must earn a total of 12 points – these 2 additional points must be earned between the expiration of the current certification period and the date of the recertification application. Click here for fees.
• CPPO candidates must earn a total of 18 points – these 3 additional points must be earned between the expiration of the current certification period and the date of the recertification application. Click here for fees.

Within one (1) to five (5) years of the expiration date:
• Any candidates under this status will be required to take the complete set of applicable CPPB or CPPO examinations and pay appropriate examination fees.
• CPPB candidates must earn a total of 12 points – While the candidate is not required to re-apply for certification, the candidate must complete a Request for Certification Re-Examination form with the appropriate payment a minimum of thirty (30) calendar days prior to the examination date.
• A new certification number and new valid certification dates will be issued upon successful completion of the examination.
