Recertification Requirements

UPPCC recommends that certificants maintain a file of continuing education activities immediately following certification and each recertification period thereafter to keep track of attendance and to store certificates of attendance/completion that are required for recertification documentation.

General Recertification Requirements
All candidates for recertification are required to earn a minimum of forty-five (45) qualifying contact hours in a minimum of two (2) out of three (3) categories. The three (3) categories are:

  1. Continuing Education & Professional Development - Accredited
  2. Continuing Education & Professional Development - Non-Accredited
  3. Professional Contributions

Continuing Education & Professional Development - Accredited
Contact hours may be earned for the completion of accredited education activities in this section of the Application for Recertification. Accredited education activities include formal coursework taken at the higher education level and seminars, courses, training events, etc. offered by other types of education providers.

All activities must be related to public procurement or designed to either prepare or enhance one's ability to perform in a current or future procurement role. A description is required for each activity. The description should relate the content of the activity to one of the six knowledge domain areas of the current CPPO/CPPB Body of Knowledge and/or describe how the activity enhances performance in a current or future procurement role.

All activities in this section of the Application for Recertification must be accredited. Accredited education activities have been evaluated for quality by an entity that is independent from and unrelated to the education provider. Continuing Education Units (CEUs) are typically issued for accredited education activities, but not all education activities that earn CEUs upon completion are accredited. It is incumbent upon the individual to verify with the education provider that an education activity is accredited prior to investing in the activity. Activities that meet the content requirement for recertification, but are not accredited should be listed in the Continuing Education & Professional Development - Non-Accredited section of the Application for Recertification.

Documentation is required for all activities recorded in this section of the Application for Recertification. An official, sealed transcript must be submitted to document coursework completed at the higher education level and a transcript or completion certificate must be submitted to document any other type of accredited activity.

Credit hours earned for formal coursework completed at the higher education level may be multiplied by 8 to determine equivalent contact hours earned. CEUs earned for other types of accredited education activities may be multiplied by 10 to determine equivalent contact hours earned. Calculate contact hours from CEUs ONLY IF contact hours are not already reflected on the transcript or completion certificate issued by the provider of the accredited education activity in which CEUs were issued.

Continuing Education & Professional Development - Non-Accredited
Contact hours may be earned for the completion of education activities that are not accredited or for attendance to conferences, meetings, events, etc. in this section of the Application for Recertification.

One (1) contact hour may be earned for each clock hour of education, including partial hours, up to a maximum of eight (8) hours per day. For attendance at industry meetings, conventions and other similar events such as the annual NIGP Forum & Products Exposition, contact hours may only be earned for sessions and workshops that are instructor-led and include a speaker, instructor, trainer, facilitator or moderator. Networking, tradeshows, entertainment and social events are excluded and are not applicable for contact hours. This exclusion applies to stand alone events as well as those that are part of larger events such as the annual NIGP Forum & Products Exposition.

Documentation is not required to be included with the application for activities recorded in this section, but may be requested by UPPCC Staff during the evaluation process. The certificant should be prepared to provide documentation for any activities submitted in the event the documentation is requested. If requested, acceptable forms of documentation for non-accredited continuing education include any one of the following:

  1. Proof of attendance may be documented using a certificate of training, attendance, participation, completion, etc. or a transcript from the continuing education provider. Certificates should include the name of the attendee, sponsoring organization, activity title, dates and location (city, state/province).

  2. NIGP members may submit a copy of his/her member profile or NIGP transcript as documentation for NIGP National training/education.

Professional Contributions
Certificants may claim credit in the form of contact hours for professional contributions that are directly related to procurement, such as leadership on a Board of a professional procurement organization, authoring a procurement-related article, book, or chapter of a book, speaking or teaching at procurement-related meetings and/or events, and performing activities in support of UPPCC. Additional contact hours cannot be earned for teaching and/or speaking multiple times on identical topics within the same 5-year certification period.
